Rail Pastors in Barnet received the Community Engagement award at the British Transport national awards ceremony in London on 30 March 2015.
Coordinator Paul Lewis described the award as “a joy and encouragement”.
Rail Pastors is a prototype initiative within the Street Pastors family that came about at the request of the British Transport Police who offered their support if a patrol “like Street Pastors” could be established on a stretch of the network where there had been a high number of suicide attempts and fatalities.
The team in Barnet has recently expanded its area of operation and now also carries out patrols on the Great Northern Route (GN) – the line that runs from Potters Bar to Alexandra Palace.
The rail pastors are a reassuring presence to passengers and are ready to help any needy or vulnerable passengers on the station platforms.
