Summer Solstice 2018
This years summer solstice at Stonehenge, saw 22 street pastors from Chippenham, Warminster, Bristol, Andover, Winchester, Torbay and Salisbury join together across two shifts to Care, Listen, Help and to bring joy to the 10000 people who attended this years solstice celebrations.
Street Pastors work alongside English Hertiage, Festival welfare, onsite security and police to ensure people have a safe and fun experience at Stonehenge.
The weather this year at Stonehenge was alot colder than previous years which had an impact on many people, who hadn’t come prepared for the drop in tempreture over night. The team helped signpost and escort festival goers to the onsite provision, many of whom just needed a chance to stand by a heater and wrap themselves up in a blanket, provided by the team or the welfare team.
Highlights of the night included the first shift had the pleasure of being invited to pray for someone after a long discussion, while the second shift came across someone who needed immediate medical attention.
Before the end of the festival the team helped pre-warn people that security would shortly start to clear the monument field. Using our calm presence, streetpastors helped to move people on prior for the need of the onsite security. Our presence was acknowledged as helping bring the solstice to a peaceful conclusion.
